Why your product business should be on Pinterest

Pinterest is the world’s 3rd largest search engine

After Google and Youtube Pinterest is the world’s 3rd largest search engine. It is estimated that in 2022 there are over 430 million users worldwide. That is a lot of people that you can get your products in front of! And if you have the capacity to sell overseas that is a potential 430 million customer base waiting to find your products.

Pinterest is not social media

There is a common misconception that Pinterest is another social media platform, and although it is sometimes marketed like that by social media managers and marketing companies it is actually a search engine. (the 3rd largest in the world don’t you know!) Because of this Pinterest does not require the same levels of engagement that the other platforms do.

Much like a website, Pinterest uses keywords (another word for SEO) to show your pins to people who search for certain words or phrases. Using these keywords effectively on your profile, boards and pins is the key to getting your pins to show up in people’s feeds which will then lead to more people viewing your products and going on to purchase them.

Pinterest increases website traffic

A correctly set up pin will include a URL which will then take a user directly from your pin to that page on your website. This is especially important if you own a product business as it cuts down the steps that a customer has to take from seeing your product to purchasing it.

Not only can you increase traffic by creating pins, Pinterest also allows you to set up a shop. In April 2022 Pinterest announced an integration with woo-commerce to directly import your product catalogue, a feature that was already in place for Shopify websites. Integrating your catalogue means that the details on your product pins are live and so any changes in price or stock levels are updated in real-time without you having to do anything. What is even better is all of this can be done for free.

Marketing on Pinterest is different from other social media platforms

Marketing your products on Pinterest is different from other social media platforms, as already explained Pinterest is a search engine and much in the same way that your website pages take time to rank on google, your pins will take longer to rank and be seen than a post on social media. But unlike social media, these pins are then around forever and especially seasonal products can have life year after year if keywords are used correctly when it was first published.

Because pins need to rank it also means that planning your marketing needs to be different on Pinterest than on other platforms, which is especially important to note if you have seasonal products. Christmas for example you need to start pinning in August/September so by the time the main Christmas shopping is in full flow your pins have already ranked and are ready to be viewed by potential customers.

The best time to be on Pinterest was yesterday the next best time is now!
