Why use Pinterest to market your business?
Are you ready to unlock the power of Pinterest for your business? Unlike other social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, Pinterest is actually a visual search engine. This means the main purpose of Pinterest is to help its users find answers to their questions and direct them to find out more. This could be from what to buy someone as a gift for a birthday or other special occasion to how to file a tax return or best exercises for postpartum. That is why Pinterest is a great marketing platform whatever your business area is and unlocks the potential for your business to reach new audiences and ultimately drive traffic to your website, product listing, blog or podcast.
Pinterest is home to over 400 million active users, so there will be people using the platform who need the products or services your business provides.
Will my business even work on Pinterest?
The question I get asked the most, especially from service-based business owners is, will my business even work on Pinterest? Most people view pinterest as a platform for discovering ideas related to home redecorating, wedding planning or gift inspiration. However, what many people don’t know is that your pins also can also appear in Google’s image search results, directing anyone who clicks on the images to the specific URL (website address) you have set up with the pin.
This means that if your business has any presence online whether it be your website, a blog post, a landing page to sign up to your email list, a podcast, a YouTube video, or even your instagram account then Pinterest could be an excellent choice for marketing your business.
Don’t worry I’m not forgetting about product-based business owners either, basically, Pinterest will definitely work for you. If you have a website such as Shopify or WordPress you can even set up a shop directly within Pinterest which will pull all the information from the product listings on your website directly into Pinterest so users can click on a pin and be taken directly to that product to purchase it. If you’re using a 3rd party to advertise your products such as Etsy, Pinterest can still work for you too, you just won’t be able to set up a shop but you can still create pins with your Etsy listing URL and direct people to your products that way.
What doesn’t work on Pinterest?
Before you jump onto Pinterest, which as ive mentioned above I definitely recommend for any business. I wanted to make it clear that because Pinterest is a search engine rather than social media there is one main thing that doesn’t work as well.
Time-sensitive content such as sales or special offers. (H4)
As a search engine, Pinterest takes time to index your pins, this is both a blessing and a curse for prompting time-sensitive content such as sales or special offers as you won’t get instant results from your pins. It takes at least a month of regular pinning to start seeing results so by the time your pins are generating traffic the sale or special offer may have expired.
Don’t worry I have a way around this. The good thing about Pinterest is that your pins last so much longer than on social media, the average life span of a pin is 3 months – 1 year, so to make time-sensitive content or sales pages work your pins need to use URLs that will always be active. So when you aren’t actively selling your products or services your sales page should have an email signup box so then the people interested will get emailed whe the products or services are on sale again so they can then make their purchases. Because of the life span of your pins if your products or services are seasonal they can then work for you in the following years as long as that URL is still active.
How to use Pinterest to market your business online?
So hopefully you are now realising the power of Pinterest and are ready to unlock it for your business but how do you get started? I may have already mentioned Pinterest is a search engine so needs regular content added to it, in the form of pins. Ideally, you want to be adding something new to Pinterest every day.
Dont, worry you only actually need 4 new pieces of content a month this could be either 4 blog posts, 4 podcasts, 4 products, 4 services etc and they don’t even need to be newly created either they just need to be new to Pinterest.
So you probably have a collection of content already that you have sitting on your website or another social platform, the next step for you is to learn how to break down that content to make your pins. This is where I can help, together we can take the content you already have a create a Pinterest strategy to help grow your business.
