Would you like a new way to market your business that can boost your brand’s visibility and get your products or services in front of your ideal clients? Then look no further than Pinterest. This powerful search engine is the 3rd largest search engine in the world and has the power to drive traffic to all the online areas of your business.
How do you know if your business is ready for Pinterest?
As a busy mum and business owner your time is already stretched and so you don’t want to commit to another platform such as Pinterest without knowing it’s a great fit for your business. Well, don’t worry I’ve got you covered. Let’s dive into what your business needs to have in place to harness the magic that Pinterest could bring whether you have a product or service business.
Elevate your Product Business
You spend hours making your products, putting your love, care and attention into them. Pinterest is the perfect place to showcase your products, reach a wider audience and make more sales. Pinners come to the platform ready to buy so the conversion rate on Pinterest is higher than on other social media platforms. To get the most out of this powerful search engine your product business ideally needs the following things.
1. Diverse product range
One of the key indicators that your business is ready for Pinterest is having a good selection of products in your online stop. Aim to have at least 10 as this will give you enough variation of URLs (website links) to point your pins to as Pinterest doesn’t like it if all your pins go to the same place. With 10 products you will actually have at least 11 weeks of content (using my Pinterest strategy content breakdown which you can find out more about here), thats nearly 3 months, how awesome would that be!
2. A website to sell your products
By having your products listed on your own website you can really harness the amazing features that Pinterest has to offer product businesses. From being able to claim your website in your profile which will make your website address clickable to setting up a Pinterest shop. By integrating Pinterest with your website platform (this could be Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix etc) you can import your product catalogue directly into Pinterest under a shop tab. This makes your pins shoppable and keeps the details like price and stock availability up to date on your pins. You can even take this a step further and become a verified merchant, this doesn’t just give your account a nice blue tick it also helps with the visibility of your products on Pinterest. This is why having your own website is such a powerful asset to growing your product business.
But what about you Etsy shop owners, well the truth is you won’t be able to use the extra features like the shop tab with an Etsy shop as it’s a 3rd party platform. However, as long as you have enough products in your Etsy shop you can still get started with Pinterest and use it to drive more traffic to your Etsy shop listings. Then when the time comes you are ready to upgrade to your own website and take your business to the next level, you will already be familiar with how to regularly pin on Pinterest.
3. Scroll-stopping product imagery
Pinterest is a highly visual platform so making sure your product images are high quality, bright and clear will tempt people to stop and click on your pins to find out more. Much the same as you would do for your website or Etsy shop, clear, well-lit photos showing your products from different angles work best. As well as photos showing the product in use or mocked up in different scenarios so potential customers can imagine having the product in their home or using it themselves. If your imagery is really strong sometimes all your pins will need is a single image and a logo to get people clicking on them.
Supercharge your Service Business
My service business mums don’t think I have forgotten about you, although Pinterest may not have been on your radar before, service businesses can get great results too. Whether you’re looking to get more people reading your blogs, listening to your podcast, signing up for your courses or memberships or simply to book with you directly. Pinterest is not just for interiors and makeup, it’s a great platform for any online service business and can help drive more traffic to all areas of your business, it just helps if you have these 3 things in place.
1. Content is king
If you are already putting in the effort to write a regular blog, record a podcast or have a YouTube channel, then you have all the content you need to market your business on Pinterest. Pinterest loves fresh content and whatever form you have decided to produce will have its own unique URL (website address) you can use on your pins and send people to. This makes coming up with content for your pins simple, each blog, podcast episode or YouTube video is a week’s worth of content (using my Pinterest strategy content breakdown which you can find out more about here). So how many do you have in your library already?
2. A Multipage website
Talking of content if you have a multipage website, each page is a destination for your pins. From your homepage and about page to your services, sales or any landing pages you have. Each different URL (website address you have) can be a fresh week of pins to send traffic to, the more pages you have on your website the more weeks of pin content you already have waiting for you to create. How many pages does your website currently have, make a list of all your links you’ll be surprised how much content you already have to drive traffic to using Pinterest.
3. Branded imagery
It’s not only product businesses that can benefit from scroll-stopping images. If you have ever had a brand photoshoot or have visual mockups to represent your freebies, or services all of these can help stop the scroll and get people clicking on your pins. Don’t have branded images then all is not lost, engaging titles using relevant keywords for your content that your audience will be searching for can get people clicking too.
