Pinterest 2024 Predictions – My Top 5 Trends

by | Jan 8, 2024

People come to Pinterest not only looking for inspiration but to also embark on future planning. With this unique position in the online world, Pinterest is able to foresee trends and make predictions on what could be popular in the upcoming year.

This is why every year Pinterest releases its ‘Pinterest Predicts’ and you can see the full 2024 report here.

But if you don’t have time to read the full report I’ve picked 5 of the predicted trends that I think could work for a range of businesses and included ideas for how you could use these trends within your Pinterest content.

1. Blue Beauty

Blue and Aqua are set to be popular colour choices in 2024. Be prepared to see an increase in blue eyeshadow and blue nails, a trend from the 60s coming back in 2024.

According to Pinterest report the following search terms are on the rise:

  • Blue eyeshadow aesthetic +65%
  • Fun blue nails +260%
  • Light blue prom make-up +70%
  • Aqua make-up look +100%
  • Blue quince make-up +85%

If you already have examples of these colours in your portfolio this year would be a great time to showcase those photos on your pins.

But it’s not just beauty businesses that could make the most of these colours, if you’re planning looks for yourself or your models to showcase your products or services then including blue shades could help you stand out on Pinterest this year.

2. Head to Glow

Creams, lotions and skincare routines that give a luxury bodycare or in-home spa experience are set to be on the rise in 2024. This also includes protective creams such as suncream.

These are the keywords Pinterest has highlighted that could be on the rise:

  • Sunscreen +75%
  • Body moisturiser aesthetic +245%
  • Spa aesthetic +60%
  • Body skincare routine +1,025%
  • Bodycare +845%

So if you offer a product or service that can complement an in-home spa day, consider including keywords relating to bodycare, spa aesthetics and skincare routines to reach a wider audience. This prediction could also work for healthy meal ideas for inner bodycare, or mindset to relax both the body and mind.

3. Eclectic Grandpa

The name of this trend is one of my favourites for 2024, and it also includes a great range of clothing styles to suit many types of business. From cardigans and retro sweaters and jumpers to denim jackets and customised clothing.

Just take a look at the keyword phrases Pinterest has associated with this trend:

  • Customised denim jacket +355%
  • Eclectic clothing style +130%
  • Grandpa core +65%
  • Retro streetwear +55%
  • Grandad style +60%

I personally think customised denim jackets are cool whatever you age so if you sell them or teach people how to customise their own jackets this could be a really great trend for you in 2024.

If you are looking for image inspiration it may be time to dust off the old family albums and get inspired by the looks of past generations, although I’m not sure the hankie hat my grandad would have in the summer will ever be back in fashion.

4. Groovy Nuptials

Wedding inspiration and planning are a big part of Pinterest and in 2024 the wedding trend they think will take off is 70s groovy nuptials. I can see how this trend compliments the pantone colour of the year which is also connected to the wedding industry and in 2024 is peach fuzz, (find more about pantone colour of the year here) Peach coloured patterns and 70’s looks definitely give a groovy vibe.

These are the keyword phrases Pinterest is seeing growth in already for this trend:

  • Groovy wedding +170%
  • 70s bride +50%
  • Retro wedding theme +80%
  • Groovy hen party outfit +110%
  • Retro hen party décor +35%

Have you previously worked on a wedding that had a retro theme? Even if the part of the wedding your business was responsible for wasn’t retro maybe the venue was, or the cake design, the photograph style, wedding favours or decorations, reach out to those contacts and see if you can get any imagery to create a case study, or blog to help connect you to this trend. Collaboration on boards could also be a great idea to support this trend.

5. Give a Scrap

From crafting to recipes to fashion if you are into sustainability and transforming what others may throw away then this trend is for you. This prediction is all about taking the scraps, ends and leftovers and turning them into something useful and unique.

Take a look at these keywords from Pinterest and the range of businesses they could apply to:

  • Small scrap wood projects DIY +1,220%
  • Starter leftover recipes +165%
  • Craft work with waste material +140%
  • Zero-waste sewing patterns +80%
  • Scrap quilt patterns leftover fabric +80%

This trend would be great for video content on Pinterest, you could link to YouTube tutorials or even better blogs on your website that include the video or recipes. This is also a great trend prediction that could help get people onto your email list, if you have been stuck for lead magnet ideas maybe turn a leftover recipe or scrap pieces craft pattern into a downloadable PDF.
