Have you ever wondered why your carefully crafted emails sometimes end up in the dreaded spam folder? If you are using Mailerlite for your email marketing (which is a great choice btw) you may be experiencing this problem. But fear not, I have a solution for you.
Whether you are new to Mailerlite or have been using it for a while there is a stage of setting up your account that most of my clients are missing and maybe you are too! In this blog, I will delve into this step that will ensure your emails land right where you want them – in people’s inboxes.
The key lies in the all-important set-up of your domain authentication.
What is Domain Authentication?
Domain Authentication is a way of establishing your email address’ credibility. It lets the inboxes of your subscribers know that the email is coming from a verified source, a real person rather than a spam email address or bot.
Changes to emails in 2024
Gmail and Yahoo have both announced that from February 2024 they are making changes to their spam protection. In the new rules, any bulk senders of emails (which includes any email marketing platform like Mailerlite) must use an authenticated domain or the emails will simply not be received.
This means that your emails won’t even end up in the spam folder they will simply have a failure to deliver. To ensure this doesn’t happen to your emails now is the perfect time to get your domain authenticated.
How to authenticate your domain in Mailerlite
1.
Begin by logging in to your Mailerlite account. Navigate to the settings page
2.
Click on “Domains.” Your domain name should already be listed here and verified as thats part of the initial mailerlite setup.
3.
However, next to verified is where you will find authenticate. Clicking on this will bring up a new window with a series of DNS records that you need to add to your domain’s DNS settings.
4.
Log in to your domain provider and look for the manage DNS or DNS editor, here is where you will add the codes.
5.
Go back to Mailerlite and click on verify. If the codes are all ok then you will get a green tick or the word itself is highlighted green. If for any reason the codes haven’t worked then the window will remain and Mailerlite will let you know what codes need to be changed. It also can take up to 24 hours for authentication to go through so don’t panic if it is not approved straight away.
Get your emails authenticated in an hour
This may sound super techy but I can assure you that it is something that won’t take long to set up and the good news is that is something I can help you with. Book a power hour with me and together we can go through the steps for authenticating your domain and ensure your emails reach your subscribers for 2024 and beyond.
What if you don’t have a business email address?
Before you get started, here’s a quick heads-up: Domain authentication only works if you’re using an email account with your own domain name. If you’ve set up your MailerLite account with a free email account like Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and the like, you won’t be able to authenticate it.
